Installing Custom ROM on Optimus One

What is ROM ?
ROM is referred to as OS which is installed on the phone. In this it is android, when you buy a new phone it has Android OS installed which is developed by the manufacturer of the phone and is generally referred to as "Stock ROM".

What is Custom ROM?
The biggest USP of Android is that it is highly customizable. Now what does mean to a layman, it means if you are not happy with any feature or function of the phone you can customize it if you have the knowledge of coding. It is similar to the concept wherein you are not happy with the ready-made clothes you get it tailor-made or get it customized. In a similar manner the many renowned developers are capable of creating the ROM/OS from scratch removing the unwanted apps & codes to make the phone work / perform faster.
As the OS is customized it is referred to as "Custom ROM"

The process of installing a custom ROM is just similar to the process where in you remove Win 98 from the computer and install Win XP [though it is not that time consuming]. So lets get started with installing a "Custom ROM".

Pre-requisites:

* ROM Manager [available in market]
* Custom ROM

[Download the 6.5.7 version]
[Download the 1.1 Version]

Make sure you thank the developers for their hard work by pressing the "THANKS" button.

There are N number of custom ROMS out there but the above two are the most stable ones. Which will get your phone upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3. The official Gingerbread version for Optimus one has been launched it makes the phone very slow and gives many reasons to hate the phone.

Installing the Custom ROM
* Download either of the above Custom ROM and place it on sd card.
* Using the ROM manager take a backup of your current ROM, which will make sure that your phone will come back to life if the installation has any problem.
P.S.: It requires around 400-500 mb space on sd card make sure you have enough space.
* Make sure you have the custom recovery installed, If you haven't followed the post here is the link

* Using the ROM manager select the option Reboot in Recovery.

The phone will then restart and give you some text which looks similar to the BIOS screen of the computer.
Note in custom recovery you cannot you touch screen you will have to use the hardware keys.
Volume keys works as UP & Down buttons.
Menu key works as Select.
Search Key works as Back.

* Once the phone is booted in recovery
Wipe the Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Battery Stats

* After you have wiped everything Select the option "Install zip from SD card."
Then Select the option Choose Zip from sdcard.
Locate the file and hit Menu button to confirm.
Once it is done just sit back and watch the phone as it will load all the file and will reboot.

It will take around 15-20 mins and it will boot with the new OS and interface. cherrsss...!!!
